The Origin of the Book Theory of Chronic Diseases

The Theory of Chronic Diseases by Hahnemann, where the concept of miasms transformed chronic disease treatment in homeopathy.

Hahnemann after discovering and practicing homeopathy for a long time he found that many homeopathy cases failed to bring real cure in some patients despite off selecting a perfect similimum homeopathic remedy.

The diseases would subside for the time being under properly selected homeopathic drug but it reappeared .

When it was about treating chronic disease Hahnemann stated that “it’s start was pleasing, the continuation less favorable, the outcome hopeless.”

He thought of one or more reasons for the failure of the cases, They are as follows;

1. The law of similar might not be law of universal application.

2. The number of drugs discovered maybe were not enough.

3. There might be some defect in the application of the law of similars.

4. There might be some negligence in ascertaining the totality of symptoms.

5. There might be some obstacles overlooked that prevented the patient from recovery.

Hahnemann’s analysis on this above reasons;

1. He DISMISSED HIS FIRST REASON that the law of similar might not be law of universal application because ;

• The law was based on observation and experiment

• Supported by inductive and deductive reasonings.

• Followed by nature herself to bring about cure in natural diseases.

2. His second reason I.e drugs discovered were not enough did console him but didn’t satisfy him .

3 & 4. As we regards the third and fourth reasons he came to discover a new fact that the non – veneral chronic diseases after time being always returned in more or less varied form with new symptoms or reappeared with an increase of complaints.

Concluding that there is no defect in the application of law of similars but there might be defect in ascertaining the totality of symptoms.

5. Regarding the 5th reason some over looked obstacles; He concluded that there is something which can neither be removed nor due out themselves.

After a long 12 years of observation, analysis and hardwork Hahnemann gave general name to the obstacles as PSORA … bringing the book “THEORY OF CHRONIC DISEASE” into existence.
