THE SECOND PRESCRIPTION
The second prescription means the one after the previous remedy has “acted”.
There are three possibilities for the second prescription :
Repetition
Antidote
Complementary
Indication for the repetition of the drug :
Return of the original symptoms of the patient.
If the patient complaints that his general sense of well being has come to a stand still but the original symptoms have not yet returned.
When the symptoms change, but the patient feels and seems improved.
Indications for antidoting the first prescription :
When new symptoms appear after the first prescription without amelioration of the general well being of the patient, proves the first prescription is unfavourable and has to be antidoted.
The selection of this antidotal second prescription is based on original symptoms + the new symptoms, with more emphasis on the new ones.
Indications for a complementary remedy :
When the first remedy does not seem to have fathomed(going to depth) the case and some residual symptoms seems to persist.
Eg ;
Belladonna complemented by Calcarea carbonica,
Pulsatilla complemented by Silicea.
