SECOND PRESCRIPTION IN ORGANON OF MEDICINE  | HDS

Definition – Second prescription is a prescription given after the first one that has acted.

INDICATION – Use of remedy reaction

  • REPETITION OF THE SAME MEDICINE

Indication – 1. When there is initial amelioration , followed by aggravation.

2. The symptoms return with same or changed intensity.

  • ANTIDOTE –  Definition – It is a substance that nullifies/cancels/neutralizes the action of the previous medicine.

Indication – 1. Killer’s aggravation

2. Idiosyncratic reaction

3. Medicinal aggravation

4. Symptoms take a wrong direction

Universal Antidote – Camphor – for vegetable drugs ; Nux Vomica – for allopathic drugs

  • COMPLEMENTARY MEDICINE – Definition – It is a medicine that completes the action of the previous                                                                                                     medicine. Most of the times it is a constitutional medicine.
  • Indication – 1. When previous medicine gives only temporary relief. After giving a medicine, first there is amelioration followed by aggravation of symptoms.

2. Complementary medicine cures the patient.

eg. Natrum mur is complementary of Ignatia.

  • COGNATES – Definition – These are closely related medicines that follow each other.

eg. Sulphur , Calcarea Carb, Lycopodium

Indication – These remedies are so closely related that, usually the symptoms of one constitutional remedy give clear indications for the administration of the other remedy.

  • PLACEBO – Definition – It is a pharmacologically inert substance having no medicinal value and is given with the main aim of mentally satisfying the patient. Vehicles can be used as a placebo.

Indication – 1. When previous medicine is acting beneficially. This happens in remedy reaction like –

a. Homoeopathic aggravation

b. Borderline case

c. Ideal cure

d. Old symptoms reappear

2. Hypochondriac patient

3. Indisposition

  •  INTERCURRENT REMEDY

Indication – 1. Indicated medicine fails to act because of a miasmatic block. Function of an intercurrent medicine is to remove this miasmatic block.

2. Usually nosodes are used as intercurrent remedy. After giving the intercurrent medicine we must follow it up with the indicated medicine.

  • CHANGE IN THE PLAN OF TREATMENT

Indication – 1. When there is change in the presenting miasm.

2. When indication of presenting case changes.
