COMMON NAME :-

Corrosive Sublimate, Mercuric chloride.

INTRODUCTION  :- 

Mercurius Corrosivus is very small drug ,but its action is very remarkable in few disease. The keynote which runs through the whole drug is great tenesmus either in rectum or urinary bladder or in both.

SPHERE OF ACTION :

It acts on mucous membrane, intestine, urinary bladder, eye, bones etc. It also has action over serous membranes, especially peritoneum.

Thermal Relationship – Chilly patient.

Miasm – Syphilis.

Guiding Symptoms :-

  • It has severe tenesmus of the rectum which is incessant and is not relieved by stool.
  • Stool scanty mucus mixed with stool.
  • Tenesmus of rectum and bladder at the same time Intensely inflamed throat, swollen, burning with swollen gums, which bleeds easily.
  • stools is hot, scanty, bloody, slimy and offensive.
  • sweats after stool and urine.
  • A never get done feeling.

PARTICULARS :-

Eyes : Pain behind the eyeballs. Pain severe at night; burning, shooting, tearing.  Eyes inflamed and prominent.-Look fixed.-Burning and dryness of eyes. -Lids everted, swollen, red, excoriated, burning, and smarting; edges covered with thick crusts or pustules.-Tearing as if in bone above l. eye, near root of nose, and in other parts of the bone.-Objects appear smaller.-Double vision. Ophthalmia neonatorum ,burning excoriating discharge from eyes, soreness of the eyes. Eyelids swollen.

Throat : Intensely inflamed, swollen burning with swollen gums ,which bleeds easily. Tonsillitis-Burning ,sore, red, painful swelling of tonsils covered with ulcers, causes difficulty in swallowing. Diphtheria, uvula is swollen, elongated and very red with intense burning in throat. ptyalism or lardaceous ulcers with sore throat. Pricking in throat as from needles. All glands about thorax swollen.

Urinary Organs : Tenesmus of bladder with intense burning in urethra . urine is hot, burning, scanty, or suppressed. passing drop by drop, bloody with greenish discharge and albuminous. tenesmus of bladder, stabbing pain extending up urethra. perspiration after urinating. Urine scanty, brown, with brick-dust sediment; bloody; albuminous containing filaments, flocks or dark flesh-like pieces of mucus, Gonorrhoeic discharges, first thin, then thicker (greenish, < at night), and then smarting pain when urinating, with stitches in urethra.-Burning in urethra, more before micturition.-Paraphimosis.

Male Sexual Organs : Violent erections during sleep.-Fine, painful stinging in l. testicle.-Penis and testes enormously swollen.-Chancres assuming a phagedenic appearance, and secreting a thin, ichorous pus.

 Abdomen : Bloated; very painful to least touch. Pressive pain in inguinal glands.-Lancinating drawing in left inguinal region.

Stomach : Burning from pit of stomach to mouth; in stomach.-Swelling, distension of pit of stomach, not permitting the least touch.-Violent unquenchable thirst for cold water.-Repugnance to hot food, desire for cold. Incessant, green, bilious vomiting. Epigastrium very sensitive.

Stool & Anus : In Dysentery there is much violence, copious bleeding and anxiety. Scarcely leave stool a second ,tenesmus of rectum and bladder. Urging to urination and stool in constant. Worse by external pressure. < by motion, at night. Diarrhoea; yellow, green, bilious, bloody; with membranous shreds; of faeces with mucus and dark clotted blood.-Burning in rectum and anus; during stool.-Faeces loose, with bilious and fetid evacuations, green or brown, or composed of thin and sanguineous mucus. Itching about anus.

 Fever : Pulse small, weak, intermitting, sometimes trembling.-Chilliness from least movement and in open air, generally with colic.-Chilliness in evening, especially on head. Profuse perspiration; surface cold. Burning and stinging heat in skin.-Great heat of skin; at night with anxiety, preventing rest.-External heat with yellowness of skin.

General Modalities : <  evening, night, acids,  >while at rest.

Clinical Conditions : Affections of  Aphthae. Appendicitis. Bones, affections of. Bright’s disease. Chancre. Diarrhoea. Dysentery. Eczema. Enteric fever. Eyes, Intussusception. Iritis. Jaundice. Kidneys, inflammation of  Labor, puerperal fever. Measles. Miscarriage. Mouth, affections of Mumps.  Paralysis.  Peritonitis.  Syphilis. Taste disordered. Tenesmus. Throat, inflamed. Tongue, affections of Uvula.
