DYSMENORRHEA and its Homoeopathic remedies :

Introduction :

Dysmenorrhea is menstrual cramps. Characterized as cramping and throbbing type of pains. Women’s experience cramps just before or during menses.

Menstrual cramps are caused by:

Uterine muscle contractions are produced due to hormonal (prostaglandin) changes, it leads to pain and inflammation.

Causes :

like endometriosis,

uterine fibroids,adenomyosis,pelvic inflammatory diseases, cervical stenosis.

Symptoms :

Dull,intense, constant ache- throbbing or cramping pain, pain radiates to lower back and thighs.

Some other symptoms like,nausea, vomiting, loose stool, headache, dizziness.

HOMOEOPATHIC REMEDIES:

ABROMA RADIX Q:

It is a specific remedy for dysmenorrhea. Give it from first day of menses to seven days continuously as 10 drops in water for cure. If it doesn’t get cured repeat it for 2 days before the next period.

PULSATILLA NIG. 30:

Pulsatilla is one of the top most remedy for dysmenorrhoea.

Menses are painful, too late, scanty, changeable in nature. Irregular menses with intermittent flow, and chilliness. Pains rapidly shifting from one site to other, appears suddenly, pain get relief gradually. Flow more during the day. Delayed first menses. Menses suppressed from feet wet. Leucorrhea  is characterized as thick, acrid, excoriating.
Women looks fair, good, slow, mild , gentle, easily weeping, indecisive, consolation ameliorates the patient. Dryness of mouth without thirst. Gastric complaints appears from eating rich food, fatty food, pastry. Aggravation from warm room, evening, on beginning to move. Amelioration by open air, cold application, lying on painful side.

ACTEA RACEMOSA 30:

During menses, sharp lancinating pain , electric like sensation in uterine region and various parts, pain radiates from side to side.Chorea, hysteric mania,  mental symptoms  are aggravated during menses. If flow increases leads greater the suffering. Menses irregular, exhausting, delayed or suppressed from mental emotions. Severe left sided inflammatory pains. Rheumatic dysmenorrhoea. Excessive muscular soreness present, rheumatic pains in bellies of muscles present. Sensation as if heavy black cloud had settled over her so that, all is in darkness.

CAULOPHYLLUM 30:

Pain intermittent, paroxysmal, spasmodic, across lower abdomen extends to groin, erratic pain changing from one place to other place in every few minutes. Chorea, hysteria or epilepsy  appears at puberty, during menstrual function establish. Leucorrhea  appears as acrid, exhausting, in little girls, it prevents pregnancy. Sepia is an excellent remedy for dysmenorrhoea. Dysmenorrhoea with violent stitching pain radiating upward to vagina and lancinating pain from uterus to umbilicus. Pain extending from other part to back. Mensus may be early or late, scanty or profuse, menorrhagia or metrorrhagia. Sensation as Bearing down ,if every thing would protrude through vagina, must sit with crossed legs. Sensation as a ball in inner parts during menses. NUX VOMICA 30 :

Violent spasmodic pain in Sacrum. Menses appears too early, profuse, too long. Menses appears for every two weeks, irregular menses never at time. Labour like pains causes urging to stool or to urging to urinate. Backache, lumbago, must sit up or turn over in bed. Hypochondriac, literary, studious women. Irritable person, quarrelsome, impatient, oversensitive to all external impressions. Bad effects from highly spiced food, alcohol, coffee, tobacco, over eating, sedentary habits, mental overexertion. Aggravation during rest, lying down, damp weather.

CALCAREA CARB 30:

Dysmenorrhoea with chilliness, toothache,headache and vertigo. Mensus appear too early and profuse. Feets are  cold and damp, as if they had cold stockings on. Breast swollen and tender during menses. The least mental excitement causes profusemenstrual flow. Profuse perspiration,Leucophlegmatic, blond, fair, tendency to obesity in youth.Easily takes cold. SABINA 30:

Colic and labour like pain. Menses too early, profuse, protracted, partly fluid or partly clotted. Drawing pain in back, extending from sacrum to pubes. Due to sexual excitement their  is Discharge of blood between periods. Arthritic pain in women’s. Tendency to miscarriage especially during third month. Menorrhagia at climacteric age.unvearable to Music .Aggravation to least motion, warm room. Amelioration to walking, cool open air.

NATRUM MUR 30:

Before ,during and after menses Headache, nausea & vomiting appears. Menses are irregular, profuse or scanty. Anaemic and cachectic women their is great emaciation, losing flesh. Weeping disposition, consolation aggravates the patient. Bad effects from grief, vexation, anger, excessive use of salt. Bread aversion. Membranous and congestive dysmenorrhoea. Menses appears too early and too profuse characterized as  black and clotted associated with vertigo, headache, dim vision. Pains like pressive, drawing or tearing of parts where bones lie near the surface. Feels better during flow. Aggravation from sitting and lying at night. Amelioration by walking. Leucophlegmatic persons with anaemic or chlorotic. Easily fatigued. Ailments from suppressed grief and terrors of conscience. AMMONIUM CARB 30:

Menses preceded from gripping colic.Menses too early, profuse, acrid makes the thighs sore, copious at night and while sitting. With toothache, sadness, fatigue, yawning & chilliness. Cholera like symptoms at the commencement of menses. Stout fleshy women leading a sedentary life. Easily catches cold in winter, dislikes for washing. Haemorrhagic diathesis aggravation during menses. Amelioration by  lying on abdomen and on painful side.

LACHESIS 200:

Congestive dysmenorrhoea. Pain relieved from flow. Better during menses. Menses appears at regular time, too short, scanty. Complaints at climacteric Condition. Appears in thin emaciated persons, hot flushes, hot perspiration. Pain go from left to right, worse after sleep. Great sensitive to touch, intolerance for tight clothing. Great loquacity, suspicious, jealous person. Aggravation from warmth, heat of sun, hot drinks.

BORAX 30:

Membranous dysmenorrhoea. Menses appears too early, profuse, with gripping colic associates with nausea and pain in stomach extends to back. Leucorrrhoea appears as albuminous, starchy. Leucorrhoea – Sensation as if warm water was flowing. Dread from downward motion, excessive nervous, easily frightened from slightest noise.

BOVISTA 30:

Menses flow only during night but doesn’t appear during day time. Diarrhoea before and during menses,occasional appears every few days between periods, every two weeks, dark and clotted with bearing down sensation. Great weakness of joints and weariness of hands and feet. Awkwardness. Sweat smeels like onion especially in axilla.

KREOSOTE 30:

Severe headache before & during menses. Menses too early, too profuse, protracted, pain during but aggravates after it. CACTUS GRANDIFLORUS 30:

Pulsating pain in uterus and ovaries. Menstrual flow ceases during lying. Whole body feels like as it was caged, each wire being twisted tighter and tighter. Constriction in chest, uterus, vagina, as if clasped by an iron band. Congestive, periodic, right sided, neuralgic, throbbing type of  pains.

Menses with labour like pains, cutting type of pain in colic, backache, weakness, chilliness, flowsl only at night or when lying down.Menses acrid, dark like pitch, difficulty to wash out. Menses preceded by sorethroat. Sour smell of whole body. Craves meat.

Great excitement at every period, flow black, clotted, spasms and pain in back when walking it extends to thighs. Aggravation at night in bed. Menstrual colic, membranous dysmenorrhoea. Flow dark, stringy, pains aggravation before menses, ameliorates when flow begins.Congestive type of dysmenorrhoea. Dysmenorrhoea, agonizing pain in abdomen, compels the patient to bend double, with restlessness. Twists and turns to get relief. Ameliorates by hard pressure. Menses suppressed by anger, indignation and chagrin. Pain like lightening, shocks, cramping pain in hip.Extreme irritable, impatient throws things out of hands.

DIOSCOREA 30:

Colic type of pain during menses aggravation by bending forwards and lying down. Amelioration by standing erect or bending backward. Violent twisting type of colic pain, occurring in regular paroxysms, as if intestine was grasped and twisted by the powerful hand. Pain suddenly shift to different parts, appear in fingers and toes.

LAC CANINUM 200:

Sore throat and cough begins and ends with menses. Menses too early, too profuse, flow as gushes, bright red viscid and stringy. Breast swollen, painful before and during menses. Erratic pains from one part to another, radiates from side to side. Pain appears first in left and goes to right. Forgetful mind, absent minded, thinks her disease is uncurable.

VERATRUM ALBUM 30:

Dysmenorrhoea with vomiting and  purging .Cholera like symptoms during  menses. Rapid sinking of vital force, complete prostration and collapse. Cold perspiration on forehead. Face appears as, pale, Hippocratic, sunken. Thirst for large quantities of cold water and craves for acids. Mania – desire to cut and tear, laschivious talks.

ACONITUM NAPELUS 30:

Pain are intolerable, drives her crazy, becomes very restless, must change position often. Great fear and anxiety of mind with great nervous excitability. Afraid to go out, to go in to a crowd, fear of death. Young girls of a full plethoric habit who lead a sedentary life. Amenorrhoea after fright, exposure to cold. Music is unbearable. Aggravation from warm room, evening & night, lying on affected side, dry cold air. Amelioration from open air.

VIBRUNUM OPULUS 30:

Aching pain in sacrumsand pubes. Menses too late, scanty, lasting for few hours with crampy pains, cramps extend down to the anterior muscles of thighs. Spasmodic & membranous dysmenorrhoea appears. Pain goes from back to loins and womb. Frequent miscarriage in women. Severe bearing down sensation before menses. Aggravation from lying down amelioration from movements

Belladonna 30:

Pain appears in short attacks, comes suddenly and ceases suddenly. Menses appears too early, too profuse, bright red and hot, with bearing down sensation. Breast feel heavy and painful. Women appears with light hair and blue eyes, of plethoric, lymphatic constitutions. Congested red face with throbbing of brain and carotids. Head hot & painful, pulse full and bounding like buck shot. Violent delirium aggravation from touch, noise, sun, least jar.Amelioration from rest, standing & sitting erect, pressure.

CHAMOMILLA 30:

Profuse discharge of dark clotted blood during menses with labour like pains. Pains seems unendurable, drives to despair, with heat, thirst, fainting with numbness and eructations . Pain drive her out of bed during night, compels her to walk about. Peevish, irritable, oversensitive to pain and touch during menses.Complaints from anger. Milk runs out in nursing women, nipples inflamed, tender. Warm intake leads to Toothache during menses. Cannot endure anyone near her, cross, averse to talk.

COFFEA 30:

Pain felt intensely, almost insupportable, driving to despair, tossing in anguish. Large clots of black blood, hypersensitive in vagina. Tall lean stooping persons with dark complexion. Bad effects of sudden emotions, pleasurable surprises. Unusual activity of mind and body, full of ideas. Sleepless, wide awake at night. Oversensitiveness.

CALCAREA PHOS 30:

Menses too early, excessive, bright redin color , if late it appears as dark. Sometimes first bright then appears as dark with violent backache. Girls at puberty are tall growing rapidly, anaemic, dark complexioned, emaciated. Ailments from grief, disappointed love. Complaints aggravates when thinking about them.In school girls during puberty acne and headache appears.

COCCULUS INDICUS 30:

During menses, she is too weak, scarcely able to stand from weakness of lower limbs. Leucorrhoea in place of menses, like washing of meat. Bad effects from loss of sleep, night watching. Time passes too quickly.

CROCCUS SAT. 30:

Dysmenorrhoea,  menses blood black, viscid, clotted forming into long black strings. Nervous or menstrual headaches, before, during and after flow. Chorea, hysteria, spasms of single set of muscles. Sensation as if something alive in abdomen. Frequent extreme change in emotion.

IGNATIA 30:

Women – sensitive, nervous temperament, mentally and physically exhausted by long continued grief. Mental conditions rapidly change from joy to sorrow. Involuntary sighing, desires to be alone. Bad effects from anger, grief, disappointed love. Oversensitive to pain, pain in small spots and Hysterical pains.

ZINCUM MET. 30:

Congestive dysmenorrhoea, pains better by appearing of menses. Menses too late, suppressed, flow more at night. Breasts painful. Violent fidgety feeling in feet. Burning pain in whole length of spine, backache aggravation from sitting. Defective vitality, nervous exhaustion, too weak to menstruate.

SECALE COR 30:

Menses irregular ans copious, dark fluid like with labour like pain in abdomen. Continuous discharge of watery blood until appears of next periods. Habitual abortion. Feels cold to touch, yet patient cannot tolerate covering. Women are thin, cachectic, scrawny appearance. Face, pale, ashy, sunken. Hippocratic face.Craves for acids, lemonades. Burning in all over the parts.

MEDORRHINUM 200:

Intense menstrual colic with drawing type of pain in knees, labour like pains, must press the feet against support. Menses are too profuse, dark, clotted, stains are difficulty to wash . Breasts  and nipples are sore and sensitive to touch. Breast as icy cold, rest of body as warm. Chronic condition of ovaritis, salpingitis, fibroids, cysts, carcinomas. Maltreated and suppressed gonorrhea is seen. Craving for liquor, acids, salt, sweets, ice. Burning of hands & feet. Weakness of memory. Aggravation from thinking of complaints, sunset to sunrise, warmth. Amelioration at seashore, lying on abdomen.

TUBERCULINUM 200:

Frightful dysmenorrhoea in women having tubercular history. Menses are  early, profuse, long lasting, tardy in starting. Womens appears as tall,slim, blonde, narrow chested, takes cold easily. Emaciation, losing flesh while eating. Symptoms changes constantly.

XANTHOXYLUM 30:

Neuralgic dysmenorrhoea with pain in back and down the legs. Menses are too early, thick, almost black, in strings. Pain in loin and lower abdomen, worse from left side extending down the thigh, along the genito crural nerves. Desire to take deep breath during pain. Wants to sit or lie down during pain. Ovarian neuralgial pain .Thin emaciated chlorotic women with oedema of face and legs.

ERIGERON 30:

Dysmenorrhoea with violent irritation of bladder & rectum. Bright red bleeding.Nose bleed instead of menses. Pain in left ovary and hip. Persistent haemorrhagic condition.

TRILLIUM PENDULUM Q:

Pain with sensation as if hips and back were broken into pieces, better by tight bandage. Aggravation from least movement. Fainting, menorrhagia. Uterine fibroids. Gushing of bright red blood.

THLASPI BURSA Q:

Profuse, dark, clotted blood with violent cramps, scarcely recovers from one period before another begins. Menses too early, too profuse, protracted, tardy in starting, first day appears as show, second day colic and vomiting.

USTILAGO 30:

Menses too scanty with ovarian irritation or too profuse and  too early. Extreme pain during the period, flow profuse and doesnot cease until next period, most of the time confined to bed. Between periods, constant suffering pain under left breast at margin of ribs. Oozing of dark, highly coagulated blood, long black strings during menses.

SENECIO AUREUS 30:

Anaemic dysmenorrhoea. Before menses, inflammation of throat, chest and bladder appears which improve after menses. Functional amenorrhoea in young girls with backache too. Great heat and constant urging for urination. Scanty bloody urine with profuse mucus & tenesmus.

EUPION 30:

Pain ameliorates by appearance of menses. Nose bleed intermit during menstrual flow . Abdominal pain ameliorates by bending backwards. During menses irritable and disinclined to talk. Menses too early, copious. Uterine displacements. Congestive dysmenorrhoea.

PISCIDA 30:

Neuralgic and spasmodic dysmenorrhoea. Irregular menses. Insomnia appears due to worry, nervous excitement. It is a nerve sedative.

FRAXINUS AMERICANA Q:

Dysmenorrhoea due to uterine tumours, fibroids, uterine enlargements. Cramps in feet with bearing down sensation.

ALETRIS FARINOSA Q:

Menses are scanty, retarded. Prolapse of uterus. Anaemic, chlorotic girls with great debility. Tired all over the time. Sensation of weight in uterus. Dysmenorrhea with labour like pain.

JONOSIA ASOKA Q:

Delayed or irregular menses. Headache due to suppressed menses. Menses scanty, pale, foul smelling, blackish, with, pain, palpitation, hysteria and loss of appetite.

MERCURIALIS PERENNIS 30:

Dysmenorrhoea with scanty menses, pain and swelling of breast. Amenorrhoea. Great dryness of mouth and throat. Burning of tongue and lips.

ZINCUM VALERIANICUM 30:

Neuralgic dysmenorrhoea, ovaralgia, pains shoot down to the limbs, even to the foot. Becomes almost insane with pain, sleeplessness from pain. Hysterical women.

ROSMARINUS 30:

Violent pain followed by uterine haemorrhage, menses appear too early. Head heavy, drowsy. Chilly with icy coldness of lower extremities without thirst, followed by heat.
